I would bet money that they will upgrade the significance of this seemingly insignificant episode by using the medusa spiders to "kill" Locke.

That has already been mentioned in about 3 threads in the season 5 boards so why post it here  Huh

it doesnt need a new thread and it doesnt need to be posted here because there is already a huge discussion on it within the thread asking if he is dead or not

Really if HAS to be posted here then it should be spoiler tagged because people come here to read season 3 information and dont know what has happened in season 4 and 5, I am trying to look out for all members even if that means im "not fun" in your books

And to continue the way OT-ness of this thread, "June 21, 2007, 05:34:28 AM" is the last time Peel graced us with his presence.   Cry

I posted the comment here, captain, because I'm addressing an entirely different nuance to the point.  On the other thread, the whole point is "gee, how is Locke really dead?"

Here, the thread is debating the value of the episode.

Notice how the same comment is relevant to both conversations:

Q: How did Locke die?

A: The episode "Expose" makes use of Medusa spiders, so that makes the episode actually important.

^^^^ Conversation relevant to Season 5.

Q: How can you possibly think "Expose" is anything but mindless, useless filler?

A: The episode "Expose" makes use of Medusa spiders, so that makes the episode actually important.

^^^^ Conversation relevant to the episode "Expose."

If you want to put the points in spoiler tags, feel free, and sorry to make more work for you.  I didn't see much activity on this thread so I didn't think there were all kinds of new throngs who have just seen this particular episode for the first time.

Dude, you read WAAAAY too much into that.  Obviously you missed the part where Artz said if she were to open it, every single male spider in the area would be attacted to the female's scent.  No monster, just pheromones.

Hi.  I'm just bumping this to say, I was right and this jabroni was wrong.  Darlton confirmed by podcast (two years ago, in fact) that the spiders were the monster.

Dude.

it still seems particularly odd to me, in 6 seasons it's the only time the monster has appeared in this form to kill anyone. And it was not obvious in the slightest while watching it, to the point of needing a podcast comment to point it. I'm still very puzzled about this and I can't quite make much sense out of it outside of the whole filler, don't-think-about-it-anymore, self-resolved story ark explanation.

There were subtle monster sound effects before the spiders appeared.  They were perhaps too subtle.

Definitely. I've re-rad a couple of other threads and it seems as people were not sure at all hearing the monster sound at the time. I'm not positive here, but I think they were a lot harder to match with the monster sounds in the version that was originally aired, as opposed to the DVD ones I've watched later on. Like they had redone the sound effects. I could be wrong though, hard to be sure about this anymore.
