would this actor been credited for this epi?  I didn't read the credits on this epi.

No, Jacob wasn't credited.  I noticed that ahead of time (the guest stars, centric character, and writers are the only "spoilers" I let myself look at) and expected Jacob to not be revealed in this episode, or if he was, be a spirit or Vincent (I still say that would've been awesome) or something.  So either that glimpse is of someone credited, or they just didn't credit Jacob because they didn't want to give anything away.  I think the latter is a lot more likely.

maybe Jacob is behind the manifestations not smokey?
hilarious

You could be on to something, because we see that Ben sees his mother and that leads him out into the Jungle, could that have been Jacob, trying to recruit ben, or lure him there?

honestly that flash looks more like a stuffed dummy tied to a chair then an actor. Jacob probably hasn't even been cast yet. just like in Expose, the so-called villians true identity will be shrouded in mystery for 4 seasons

No problem, thank you for asking!  I didn't really see it until I had to go frame-by-frame.  I wonder if we're anywhere near the first people to notice this?  It'd be nice to get some recognition for being so kick-ass awesome, you know?

hilarious

Oh couldn't you see it?... Ben introduces a cheap wooden doll as the mastermind of the whole shebang... "This is my friend Jacob, and he gives me advice on women and how to be a creepy SOB and everything!"

Locke pulls the gun and blasts the doll into splinters. Grin

I don't think that could be too far off. It was a thought I had...what if Smokey = Jacob...I mean, he can be invisible, or seen, and Richard seemed interested when Ben mentioned he saw his dead mother. I.E. what if somehow smokey/Jacob scanned Ben, and revealed himself...and THAT is why it's so important to Richard. Up until then, maybe no one else saw Jacob like that...

Considering that a few of us thought we saw something, I think there will be others who already when back and rewatched just to see if they were seeing things or not.  But since the episode only aired an hour ago, I'm sure we're among the first.

And thanks Phish for the awesome screencaps!

One of three in this house saw it; not me, sadly.  I love TiVo slo-mo  Grin

I wish I knew the actor's name, I sort of recognize him.   But it's prolly not him.  I guess we'll see...

I know I'm sort of changin the topic here, but I figured this goes better in this thread than a seperate one:  Ben said that, like Locke, Jacob isn't a big fan of technology.  Jacob, being the true leader of the true others, appears to understand the "rules" of the Island, as Locke put it, and I think Locke is just now in the process of truly understanding them.  I'm guessing the Jacob has been a servant of "the Island" for a long time and that this dedication is something he and Locke have in common.  That would explain why Jacob asked Locke, and Locke alone, for "help."

You think maybe he's trying to get Locke to take his place?  maybe he is dying or something

I like that idea.  Perhaps his time as leader of his people is nearing an end (maybe somehow he ages even though Richard doesn't, or maybe he's dying of nonnatural means, or maybe he's just tired of leading) and he's chosen Locke to be his successor.  Perhaps Locke is the one they're looking for after all.  I think that would be pretty cool if, eventually, Ben kills Jacob, Locke kills Ben, and then Locke becomes leader of the true others, ending next season with an epic confrontation between Jack and Locke.  But I'm sure Cuse and Lindelof already have a great story planned out and it's probably a lot more complicated than that.

I can't believe you can't see that it's Locke.. I'm trying to find a screencap of his profile to compare it.
