My guess is at the beach camp.

My question is 'why did Kate and Jack go to the cockpit?'  I know Jack was thinking about Charlie but I wouldn't leave the beach to think about him.

erm. if im not wrong. in the first season when the pilot got 'eaten' up by smokie. charlie, kate and jack were at the cockpit talking to the pilot just before he got eaten up. well, correct me if im wrong. prolly jack feels the cockpit brings some sentimential values?

True, but still Jack said "We have to go to a place where we're easy to find".
Hiding in a dark secluded jungle next to the cockpit probably isn't the best place.

well they are tracking the phone that jack is carrying, so it doesnt really matter where they are as long as they have it, and being next to the cockpit would be easier to find than standing in just jungle.

was raining and the cockpit provided some shelter!  Grin

thing is if everyone whose with jack has gone back to the beach camp, did they realise that they were without their leader and the phone? that means they were also without their RIDE HOME!

I think it was done for 2 reasons

1) Dramatic Effect! They want the parachutest to find just Jack and Kate not loads of people

2) Why waste money on all the stars and extras when you can just use Jack and Kate for the scene?

too very good points  Smiley
plus it was kind of symbolic i guess because the first episode jack kate and charlie headed out to the cock pit for the tranceiver to find rescue, and now at the "beginning of the end" they are there once more but they have hope of rescue. so it had to be only jack and kate since charlie is not around anymore... I guess...
just a thought...

they where at the cockpit when they where splitting into two groups. so i presumed they all just stayed there. but they could of gone anywhere i guess.

If Jack and Kate are convinced they're going to be rescued, they probably felt they had some unfinished business with each other and needed some alone time.

i agree with ur 1st reasoning but not for the 2nd. if im not wrong stars and extras get paid by the episodes? depending on how big a role u play for the series of course. thats how it goes over here in my country.

They normally get paid per a day?

The part with Kate and Jack may have been filmed somewhere up to a week later and they did not want to bring everyone back just for that small section

Every time I worked as an extra, I got paid per day and the rate varied depending on the production, about $65 to $120 (20 years ago).   When I was a stand-in (for Lorraine Bracco pre-Sopranos!!) I got paid double the day rate and  I was guaranteed work for as long as the same scene was being shot.  I don't know if the same rules apply, but I think I read somewhere that they try to get the same extras, even though they are mostly red-shirts.  And Captain, I have a sneaking suspicion that our beloved directors, producers, et al, don't have to worry so much about paying Josh Holloway or Terry O'Quinn to show up and act.  Don't they all have contracts?  Quit making stuff up about 'coming back and shooting a week later'... sheesh.  Yes, it might have been shot a week later, or whatever, but so what?
