You are correct, I missed the one that Walt was wearing, but I think that one is the only one that we have seen, if I set sail on a home built raft then I would wear one !

Yeah, but I think most of them would have been in the fuselage when it was burnt.

I don't think that airplanes have "life jackets" per se, but the seat backs and cushions are supposed to double as flotation devices.  Which would suck if you were injured in a plane crash at sea, but were unable to hang on to the flotation devices.

On the other hand, boats are required to provide life jackets for all passengers and large vessels should have sufficient lifeboats to accommodate all passengers.

I was going to agree with Hynsntrn but my mind keeps having Chris Farley in Tommy Boy popping into it.

Steveagain, nice catch on the lack of life jackets.. though I would have been kinda funny seeing Jin, Michael and Sawyer with a big yellow thing across their necks.

Actually, planes do have the inflatable life jackets which you must not inflate inside the plane -- the seat cushion also serves as a  floating device (in case you forget the jacket) ...in the event of loss of pressure .....-- well you get my point.   I dunno...  like the picture below (except please ignore the dumb joke).

That makes sense then... and I guess I just gave away that I haven't been in an airplane in over 20 years ...  laugh

What keeps coming to mind here is that of a Stewardess doing the pre take off life jacked demonstration.

... and emu brought up the best ever example of that demonstration...

I was going to agree with Hynsntrn but my mind keeps having Chris Farley in Tommy Boy popping into it.

... when Tommy grabs the childrens size life jacket by accident and almost strangles himself.  ("He's a big dumb animal, isn't he folks?")  I never filled out one of those "best movies in every category" lists on that other thread, but Tommy Boy would have to be up there- definitely top 5 comedies, or top 3, maybe even #1...   Grin

Anyway, like jonny said- that was the same kind of life jacket they gave Walt, so I guess all we know is that they saved at least one from the wreckage.  Maybe they tore some apart to make shelters or... I don't know, rainwater collectors or something.  Maybe Sawyer's hoarding the lifejackets too.

Best I can think of is that they didn't wanna rummage around under the seats with all the dead people in them, but they pretty much stripped it bare of everything else so i don't see why not.

youall I haven't seen Tommy Boy in aaages, thanks for reminding me! i think i might have to rent it again Cheesy

Definitely worth renting again- now you can get the "Holy Shnikes" special edition DVD with some interviews with Farley and Spade.  Too bad they couldn't have made more movies together.  Sure, it's hit or miss- for every Tommy Boy, you'd get a Black Sheep... but I would've been happy to take my chances with those guys.  Too bad.  Undecided
