I think VIRUS is right.  Maybe the Others (after finding the tubes and going to war) stumbled onto The Staff or another station and discovered that DHARMA had done something to a few certain children.  How the Others would know if Walt/Aaron were those children, I have no idea.

Perhaps a more likely idea is that the Others simply didn't want the innocent children to get caught up in their war.  When they didn't get Aaron, they figured they might as well give up and let him die; he's not worth the trouble.  For the same reason, they had to let Walt go and they figured he would be safe enough wherever Michael is taking him ("Home," the barracks, a ship, civilization, wherever).  I think that the siblings from the tail section (along with other "good people" who the Others either wanted a. to help them fight or b. to keep them out of the line of fire) are probably at Other HQ -most likely the "barracks" Dr. Wickman speaks of.

About the cigarette, I will not take anything anyone related with the show says as truth.

That's beginning to seem pretty fair.  The collective writers-producers once said that there is no time warp.  But lately, they've been entertaining that as a possibility (although to suggest that time on the island moves differently than the outside world--- so time travel is at least still off the table).  I would call any difference in the issue of time between the island and the outside world as a "time warp."  But I suppose that's semantics.

In any event, I think it is reasonable to take the cigarette statement with a grain of salt.

I was also getting idea of an abandoned experiment. Like there is some mysterious resupply procedure, maybe in the same procedure they pick up the tubes somehow.

The orientation video in Pearl said that 'subjects in EACH HATCH are to believe only their task is important' or something close to that.. So I guess, Swan guys believed, they are doing real work, by pushing button and those Pearl people believed, they were doing real work, by sending those notebooks. I guess people in other hatches were in similar positions (note the button in Hydra), doing some routine work. Something like Sawyer did in his cage.

The button was real? But was it? Maybe nothing horrible happend after all? Henry 'Ben' Gale messed with Locke, and in season 2 finale he didn't seemed very concerned about that 'WHITE NOISY THING'. No one cared about that damn button and no one cared for friggin notebooks. The world is not destroyed yet and the island is still in one piece. Oh, maybe that'll be a long-term effect, like island will slowly go underwater in season3 ? Sad

I think the question is which station (hatch) is the true one, obviously the swan hatch was real as the implosion was no fake, the observation hatch seemed to be a fake, but there are other hatchs to be viewed from that station so who knows.
