Wohoo!  First vote.  I chose the middle one simply by process of elimination:

What she did showed the Others that she was desperate and willing to sumbit to their authority.  Definite no-no.  But attacking the Others wouldn't be smart either since they're strong enough to take care of themselves, and Kate would've just ended up getting knocked out again.  Plus, I still believe that in their own twisted minds, the Others believe they are good people and are trying to better humanity (or part of it) in some way.

As an alternative, throwing them into the Ocean proves that she won't lose her dignity for a cup of coffee (stupid caffine addictions, something almost all of us, myself included, are guilty of).  Ben didn't submit when he refused to eat or drink after his true identity was revealed, and Jack & Kate should've acted the same way.  Plus, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I think it would be a really good idea to get on Ben's good side right about now.

i think had she done anything else but put them on obediently she would have been beaten or worese, killed, and therefore risk losing answers to questions she wanted answered. true, she didnt get many answered but still, worth a try, right?

I agree with you. Kate may be feisty, but she's not stupid. She was clearly outnumbered and didn't have any real chance of escape in that situation.

After 60+ caffine free days on the island, I don't think a caffine fix would be a big deal Sad

Exactly, it shouldn't have been such a big deal.  Then again, if you've seen survivor, it's amazing what people'll do for a good meal.  I was half-kidding about the caffine addiction, but adiction could also just mean a mental (instead of phisiological) need for coffee and "real" food.  But all this talk is making me thirsty so I'll be right back after I go get a can of cok- uh, I mean water.

I think if Kate didn't put the cuffs on in the fashion that she did, the others would've made some sort of threat against Sawyer or Jack i.e held a gun to their head.  In fact, I bet the others will play that card if any of them get unruly.

Kate is smart -- she'll bide her time -- then watch your back because Freckles will be all over your ass with a lead pipe.

Oh, I dunno.  I think she may have gotten plenty answers, but we didn't, to be revealed in a later episode.  Remember how upset she was when she was brought to the cage.

if i had been in her position, i would have scowled at the cuffs, and then said ' that can wait. if you really want me to be able to enjoy this food, then i do it without those. unless this is my last meal before the electric chair or something!' and waited to see what he said. i think i would have pressed the point, actually, pointing out that even death row prisoners eat their final meal without being manacled, and she could counter them that she has'nt had anything like a rightful day in court, a trial, a verdict, or a conviction, much less a death sentence by a valid body of justice, so what they are asking of her isn't even required of the worst dangers to society.  and further than that, she can run with her hands shackled, so there's no point to them at all.

i mused to my roommate that maybe she should have cuffed herself to Benry, and said they had to eat as equals, or was he afraid to do that?
she could have also closed the cuffs on themselves, set them aside,  and begun nibbling on the food nonchalantly like it was nothing.

You are right.. She didnt ate at the beach with Ben as she eated the fish cookie with some voracity!! Or else whe would let Sawyer eat it as he was hungry too.

And she was hurt.. probably tried to escape or sumthing...

Come to think of it, Kate and the Handcuffs would make a cool name for a band.

I thought it was a nice touch relating coffee with civilization, because coffee is enjoyed the world over (most traded commodity besides oil) and honestly, I'd put on handcuffs to have a nice cup of coffee after being stranded in the jungle for so long.

Grin  'Coming soon to your town. Don't miss them!'

I agree with mensabrains, she played it all wrong.  It would have been more interesting to see her do something, anything, other than what she did.  It seems to me that wearing the dress already has had the effect that the 'others' are trying to achieve.

I'm wondering if Ben's intent was to see if she was willing to put on the handcuffs at all.  We didn't actually see him make good on his word to give her coffee once she put on the cuffs.

Going back to the Jack and Juliet scenario - she kept bringing food to him, asking him to put his back against the wall so she could open the door and give him food.  He kept refusing, and she kept taking the food away.  Then when he finally obeyed and put his back against the wall, she thanked him and walked out with the food again.

I'm guessing that the same kind of thing happened on the beach when Kate expected to get coffee when she complied, and Ben changed his mind.
