I'm pretty sure that skull once belonged to a horse. It's a well-known fact that full grown bears can outrun horses easily, so its possible.

Didn't Kate have an encounter with a horse in an earlier episode?

That was a good spot, based on the size relative to the human skull i didn't believe it to be as large an animal as a bear, but i did seem to think that perhaps it was a boar. So i clipped this pic of a boar skeleton.

The only other conclusion that popped into my head was perhaps it was a smaller bear that died permaturely but it seems that bear skulls curve down more near the neck, while that skull seemed to point upward near the neck.

I was thinking that skull was too small to be that of a horse.  Aren't horse skulls much bigger than human skulls?

Full grown horses' skulls are much bigger yes. But that black horse that Kate saw could have had little horses right? Maybe one of them had a run-in with our bear.

This a skull from an adult horsie, so the bones on a young horse wouldn't be defined as much, but you can kinda see the nose-bone protruding in the episode pic.

Yes....but look at the teeth....those remains aren't horse teeth....they really look closer to the boar teeth...maybe it was a baby boar....look closely...

Nice one, Tab! Yeah I'm gonna go with boar skull, too. And there were two human skulls, which I thought was interesting. My wife thought maybe this is where bad Others get thrown. Maybe Carl is gonna be bear food.

yer i agree i mean think about it...the bear doesn't just eat humans it would have to hunt for wild animals and the best example of that would be when Locke finds an ACTIVE feed or what ever he refers to it as and it was a Boar so most likely it was some kind of wild animal and on the island there are many weird creatures but i think it would most likely e a wild boar
